Black History Month
Black excellence exists in our past, present, and future.
Each February marks Black History Month, an annual recognition honoring the achievements of Black leaders and contributors over the course of history.
Simply put, Black history is American history, in that the world we live in today just wouldn’t exist without the contributions, big or small, of brilliant Black minds. This month spotlights their powerful stories, obstacles, and achievements.
Originally a week-long celebration established by historian Carter G. Woodson, the annual recognition further expanded under President Ford. In 1976, Ford encompassed the full month in order to, “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
As we know, race relations are at the forefront of our everyday conversations, with many understanding the importance of advocating for equal rights and opportunities for all. Over the course of the month, we will be sharing a number of Black-founded non-profit organizations and continue to share voices, leaders, and resources that reflect the Black experience. At Doses of Positivity, we remain committed to celebrating Black excellence this month and beyond.
