Facebook’s Social Impact

The social networks extends their philanthropic efforts.

Let’s face it, Facebook hasn’t always gotten it right. But Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg does know a thing or two about the power of networking, with the platform's increased social awareness continuing to prove that.

During Facebook’s Annual Social Good Forum, Zuckerberg covered a number of new Facebook features aimed to strengthen user's ability to connect with people outside of their personal networks. During his presentation, Zuckerberg introduced a number of new features and addressed specific members of the crowd who had used Facebook to positively impact others, near and far.

At the forum, Zuckerberg announced the elimination of non-profit transaction fees, enabling 100% of donations made through the platform to go straight to the charity/organization. He also introduced a newly developed Mentorship Tool, enabling younger users to connect with more seasoned, professional experts in their field of interest. In an effort to connect hospitals and blood banks with voluntary blood donors, Facebook also launched a Blood Donations feature where in India alone, 4 million people have already signed up to become a blood donor.

Facebook's latest social features have been created in an effort to expand connectivity between users and ultimately optimize the well-being of others around the world. Facebook's heightened social awareness and ability to tap into how users are engaging with their platform poses them as a leader, and even a lifesaver.
