TOMS has always had a philanthropic ethos with their unique 1:1 business model, where for every pair of shoes purchased, a pair of shoes is donated to a child in need. But now, the brand is taking a stance on an important national issue, gun safety, using their influential platform to call on lawmakers and urge legislature to make an imperative change.
Provoked by the shooting that occurred just minutes away from his very own home, TOMS Founder, Blake Mycoskie understood that there was more that needed to be done in order to prevent future tragedies generated by gun violence. In 2018 alone, there were over 300 mass shootings in the United States, demonstrating that gun safety and accessibility to firearms is severely important issue for everyone in this country.
In an effort to address gun reform in a way that’s never been done before, TOMS launched a multifaceted campaign, ‘End Gun Violence Together.’ The campaign includes a call-to-action postcard sent to Representatives, and a $5 million dollar donation to several advocacy groups and organizations working to end gun violence.
Irregardless of one’s political stance, data suggests that the vast majority of Americans agree that those with dangerous track records should be prevented from purchasing firearms.
As a way to amplify this concern, TOMS has made it easier than ever to send a postcard to the Representative in your congressional district, advocating a yes vote when it comes to passing universal background checks at a federal level.
TOMS emphasizes the importance of universal background checks for all gun purchases as a common sense goal to keep all citizens safe. “This is a human issue,” Blake Mycoskie emphasized. “It’s become political, but ending gun violence is about making a better world…This is not a matter of Democrat or Republican, this is a matter of life and death.”
TOMS’ for-good mentality has enabled the brand to make an influential impact all over the globe. And with their new ‘End Gun Violence Together’ campaign, TOMS will be able to draw attention and action to a critical issue plaguing our country today.
