J. Crew has expanded their denim recycling program, partnering with Habitat for Humanity in a new initiative to repurpose unused denim into environmentally-friendly housing insulation.
Overproduction and overconsumption of textiles has led to an enormous amount of apparel waste in landfills, and many brands are seeking ways in which they can minimize waste and excess material in circulation.
Through J. Crew’s denim recycling program, customers are encouraged to donate their slightly worn jeans (of any brand) to a J. Crew store. J. Crew then works with Blue Jeans Go Green to upcycle old denim into cotton-fiber insulation. With this new partnership Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that helps build safe and affordable housing for families in need, will now be the main beneficiary to the upcycled material.
Since its inception, Habitat for Humanity has helped over 22 million people build or rehabilitate their homes. By joining forces with J. Crew, the denim donated and converted into housing insulation will help thousands of families, both addressing the full life cycle of the product and validating the brand’s deep commitment to environmental impact.
J. Crew is helping set the standard for tangible goals towards sustainability in the fashion industry by helping consumers dispose of waste responsibly through creating circular solutions to reduce textile impact, all for a good cause.
