Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated between Sept. 15 - Oct. 15 in observance of Latin American countries who recognize Sept. 15 as their date of independence (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua). Moreover, Sept. 16 is recognized as Mexico's day of independence while Chile celebrates its independence on Sept. 18.
Hispanic Americans have played a vital role throughout history and continue to have an immeasurable impact on the world we live in today. While there are various ways to observe Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re sharing a number of movies and books that spotlight the diverse journeys, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. And while Latinx communities are far from uniform, these media resources spotlight intersecting themes of strength, resilience, perseverance, and heart.
