Self-care comes in different forms, including the food you fuel your body with.
In a new series, we hope to feature plant-based food facts and information in order to promote a healthy, positive lifestyle. First off: the honeydew melon.
The honeydew melon belongs to the muskmelon family and though honeydew and cantaloupe have similar nutritional profiles, they’re slightly different. The honeydew melon is a sweet and hydrating fruit, composed of 90 percent water and containing many health-promoting plant compounds including folate and magnesium. These nutrients are vital in improving bone density, helping to repair and maintain strong bones.
Though low in calories, the honeydew melon is an excellent source of vitamin C and helps boost the immune system, which is particularly appreciated during flu season. Honeydew also aids in skin cell regeneration, strengthening tissues, and promoting healthy brain function.
When looking to select the perfect honeydew melon next time you’re at the grocery store, check for weight (the heavier the better) and firmness (no visible bruising).
