Taking A Digital Detox
Developing a healthy relationship with technology is achievable.
It’s safe to say that it’s been increasingly more difficult for many of us to detach ourselves from our digital devices. Since the onset of the pandemic, screen time has only skyrocketed and while feeling a sense of connectivity is important, doom scrolling can be dangerous and a huge waste of time. We must find ways to build a healthy relationship with the world around us and, as odd as it made sound, that also includes our digital devices. Here’s how:
Designate away time: Breaking the habit of always being on is a challenge, but setting boundaries for online hours and device-free hours is essential in developing a healthy relationship with technology.
Not all interactions are made equal: Spend less time doom scrolling and more time joy scrolling. Be thoughtful about who you’re following and why. Curate a feed that ignites inspiration and positivity.
Avoid screen jumping: Closing one screen and immediately opening another (phone to laptop to TV or all at the same time) should be avoided. Step away to take care of a quick to-do before jumping back on.
Turn off notifications: Unless it’s absolutely necessary for work, there is no reason to be constantly connected.
